The girls really get the spirit of this holiday – have fun, be proud of your country and eat lots of desserts!
The plan
Our 4th of July tradition is to descend upon the Robins’ lake house for a barbecue, boat ride and fireworks filled afternoon and evening. So, each year we do our best to get the kids to have a somewhat low-key day filled with plenty of rest. And this year, Camryn actually took a nap!
The party
We arrived at the Robins just before 4pm and immediately the girls got out their flags and started running around the grassy area adjacent to the lake house and out of the way!
They ran around on that grassy area for hours – only stopping to grab a chip or a cracker from the buffet of food. They also found the dishes of M&Ms and trail mix…
Both girls brought their lifejackets for the boat ride – it’s amazing how well they know the rules: No going close to the water, dock or boat without the lifejacket on!
We went out on the boat twice and both times the girls got to sit in Lori’s lap and drive the boat. They had a ball!

After the boat rides it was dinner and then they took up a friendly game of softball and then got into their pajamas!

Plenty of treats were eaten and finally the sun set and fireworks went off all around the lake! Camryn gave herself a front-and-center seat to the show.
Both neighbors were lighting off fireworks from their docks. On one side they were using the ones from the legal fireworks stand – they worked and were pretty enough. However on the other side they had some seemingly illegal, high flying fireworks. Those ones were beautiful. Camryn was clapping and cheering as they went off… it was really fun to see her facial expression.
Heading Home
About 10:30pm we finally got the kids into the car to come home. Watching the fireworks on the lake as we drive home is always fun and this year it didn’t disappoint. Hayden fell asleep. Camryn did not.
Hope everyone had a great 4th of July – this family certainly did!
