Wow, we woke up without the alarm clock and no mileage expectation! Tomorrow the starting mileage will include our time in and around Walnut Creek… And all the valet parking (the hotel only has valet)
The girls slept in, until about 8:30. Quite a change from their usual 6 or 6:30 starts.
We had a classy breakfast at Starbucks followed by a visit to Heather Farm park with Dena.

Great park – spent a while there. First it was the swings, then time for the monkey bars, driving the play structures, running on the play bridges, driving the train, back to the swings, back to the monkey bars, down to the pond and around and around!
Then it was lunch time. The lesson from lunch is that these girls need to expand their palettes and open their minds. I will admit that the first suggestion was vetoed by me and the kids – my reason was because it smelled of curred meats and I had trouble even thinking straight. Too bad because some of the menu options were probably really good… Instead we ended up at subway.
After lunch, they dropped me off at the hotel so that I could get my run in. Sam and Dena showed the girls around town… Hopefully Sam will blog about what they did (hint, hint). They went to see Dena’s place, Sam’s old house and his old schools. I’m sure they did a bit more, but he’ll have to compile the details!
When I had finished my run and the others had returned to the hotel, we ventured to downtown Walnut Creek. I’m not sure how much the girls got out of that, but in reality, the only thing they cared about was spending the day with grandma – so it was a success! Many similar shops to back home, several local shops. And of all things, we ended up eating at Panera Bread.
After dinner we came back to the hotel and I took Camryn for a swim. The pool water was nice and warm, but it was windy which made for a little less pleasant an experience. Camryn is getting more comfortable in the water and should continue to get better add the trip progresses.
Oh and, they only had workout sized towels on the shelf – not pool towels so when it was time to get out, one word, Brrr!
Overall a good day, doing what was needed. Kids are now asleep and we are eating dessert from the restaurant downstairs!
