Day 2

Another day has begun, with Sam behind the wheel and the girls watching Tangled on the dual-screen DVD players.

We started the day with 9564 miles on the odometer, so yesterday we drove  485 miles!

Camryn & Hayden on Sundial BridgeFirst stop was unplanned – a rest stop for Hayden to use the potty. We then drove to Redding for lunch and a pit stop. We choose to go to sundial bridge and turtle bridge museum/park. I was looking for something to do in Redding and this park turned up – and it ends up that the sundial bridge is “world famous!”

On Sundial BridgeLunch was a marginal success… Good thing we had leftovers for the girls. We then walked out the bridge to the sundial which is part of the suspension for the bridge itself. The girls liked walking over the sacramento river.

It was really hot there – so we paid to go into the museum and see what there was. Unfortunately, the girls don’t quite have museum-quality attention spans, so we weren’t able to do that much. And for some reason, Hayden decided that some of the stuff scared her!

Hayden touching a butterflyOne is the cool exhibits they had was a butterfly exhibit. The girls were able to touch some of the butterflies that had died – they were told not to touch them and not to try to get them to land on their hands (not that either of them would have)

We were there for close to 3 hours! Longer than we had planned, but it was a good adventure. The car was extremely hot, since it wad over 100 degrees. We eventually got it to cool down.

I took the next leg of driving – and then after a gas stop Sam took the wheel again for the final 45 minute stretch!

We finally got to the hotel in Walnut Creek and checked in. Quite an upgrade from the Homewood Suites to the Renaissance Club! We were able to get a room upgrade, so again we are in a suite and have lots of room.

Dena

The girls were really looking forward to the end of the day – because they knew they would get to see Grandma Dena! She arrived about 30 minutes after we checked in and wow – the girls were so excited when she got here! {sorry there aren’t any pictures with Dena, we’ll be sure to get lots tomorrow!}

We had a nice dinner in the hotel restaurant and then checked out the fitness club and pools with Dena, before heading back upstairs. Dena came with us and the girls were able to hang out with her – read books, do activities and stuff.

Another good day – looking forward to tomorrow though, because we’re here for two nights, so that means it’s not a day with hours of driving!
